I am Shylisa Hicks, a dual-certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner licensed in Texas. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing from Herzing University and completed my pediatric nurse practitioner training through the University of Alabama at Birmingham. With experience across pediatric primary care, urgent care, school-based community health, neonatal care, family education, and psychiatric mental health, I bring a well-rounded clinical perspective to every visit.
I specialize in caring for children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma-related symptoms, mood disorders, sleep concerns, and autism-related challenges. My services include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual support, child and adolescent care, and family-centered guidance.
My approach is warm, collaborative, evidence-based, and developmentally informed. I take time to understand each client’s symptoms, strengths, medical history, school functioning, family relationships, environment, and everyday challenges. I believe meaningful care begins with listening and that children and teens often make the greatest progress when caregivers are included as valued members of the treatment team.
During the first visit, I focus on building trust, answering questions, and understanding the full picture before recommending next steps. I explain treatment options clearly and work with clients and families to develop realistic, individualized plans that may include medication management, therapy recommendations, coping strategies, school collaboration, and follow-up care.
My goal is to create a calm, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where young people feel understood and families feel informed, supported, and empowered. Every child and young adult is more than a diagnosis, and I am committed to providing care that honors their identity, strengths, experiences, and potential.
Be seen. Be heard. Be truly you.
